Western Sydney leaders are urging their counterparts across the state to respect the “overwhelming majority” following public health orders.

Lakemba MP Jihad Dib told Deborah Knight it’s unfair for Greater Sydney to be characterising those in the west and south-west as rule-breakers on the basis of growing case numbers alone.

Many of those getting infected are those living in large, intergenerational households with essential service workers, he said.

“I’m not going to kid myself … and say every single person is doing the right thing, that’s not the case, but certainly the overwhelming majority of people are.

“I don’t subscribe to the narrative that people are just out and about breaking rules, and everyone’s just living as they please … that’s not what’s going on.”
