Labor is promising action to help veterans waiting years for government assistance.

There are currently more than 60,000 veterans waiting to have their claims heard by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Shadow minister for veterans’ affairs Shayne Neumann is proposing a fix of $226 million for 500 new DVA staff, a Defence Home Ownership scheme, a veteran employment program and an increase to the pension for incapacitated veterans.

Mr Neumann told Ben Fordham “we need to look after our veterans better”.
