Labor trim off ‘unjustifiable’ new road in state budget reply

After the four-month shutdown of NSW Parliament due to the Delta outbreak, the state Opposition leader has finally given his Budget reply speech.

NSW Labor leader Chris Minns told Jim Wilson taxpayers are understandably concerned about tax increases when facing a $19 billion deficit and net debt of $103 billion.

“We will not be going ahead with the $10 billion northern beaches toll road.

We don’t believe that’s justifiable when you consider the huge growth in population particularly for western Sydney – that’s where the money should go.

“I’ve announced that as a savings measure because I recognise that with debt rising, you need to be specific about where the money is coming from.”
