The Newcastle Knights have stunned the Penrith Panthers in a preliminary final showdown, sealing their ticket straight to the Grand Final where they take on the Sydney Roosters.

It was a contest that had it all, starting with a late-mail bombshell as Nathan Cleary was named on the bench, leaving Jack Cole and Jack Cogger to steer the ship from the halves.

Heading into the break, a dangerous hip-drop tackle from Phoenix Crossland left Cleary with a suspected compound ankle fracture and saw Crossland sent off.

Yet even down to twelve, the Knights proved completely unstoppable to pull off an incredible victory.
