The jury in the trial of Bruce Lehrmann remains in a deadlock after more than four days of deliberating.

Mr Lehrmann, a former Liberal Party staffer, is accused of raping his then-colleague Brittany Higgins in a minister’s office in 2019.

He has pleaded not guilty.

Lawyer Sam Macedone told Ben Fordham the judge will have to act if the jury cannot agree unanimously.

“I don’t think her honour would have any option other than to discharge the jury.

“Then it’s the question for the DPP in Canberra whether they should run this case again or not.”
