John Waters and Leo Sayer have joined Deb Knight in-studio to discuss FireAid 2020, a bushfire relief concert for the Southern Highlands.

Mr Waters – actor, musician, and Southern Highlands resident – decided to organise the event after realising he and his famous friends have a platform to make a difference.

He says the money raised will be donated to local Rural Fire Service brigades and wildlife rescue groups.

“This is a country effort, and it’s a localised effort… there’s no big entrepreneurs here, it’s us. This is a people’s thing.”

Local and international artists alike have come together to raise money for bushfire-affected communities.

Legendary Australian singer Daryl Braithwaite will headline FireAid 2020, and perform at the now sold-out Sydney relief concert Fire Fight Australia.

He tells Mark Levy he’s looking forward to performing alongside Margaret Urlich at FireAid.

“She’s on the bill, and she hopefully will join us for ‘The Horses’.”
