John Paul Young: Should we change Australia Day?

Article image for John Paul Young: Should we change Australia Day?

The Greens are out stirring trouble again, with leader Richard Di Natale calling for the date of Australia Day to change.

Despite this, Australia Day celebrations will go ahead on January 26 with spectators being treated to fireworks and a concert on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

Australian music legend John Paul Young will perform at the Opera House alongside Christine Anu, Guy Sebastian and Marcia Hines.

Steve Price asks JPY what he thinks about the ‘change the date’ movement.

“None of my indigenous friends have directly said anything to me about it. I will be performing at the Aboriginal ANZAC Day ceremony in Redfern this year and I intend to do a poll myself and see exactly how they feel about it.

“If it’s a broad thing within the Aboriginal community then I do believe we should have the conversation.

“They love this country more than anybody does. If they have a firm opinion about something like Australia Day then I think we should listen.”
