Former deputy premier John Barilaro has described the weeks following his appointment as New York Trade Commissioner a “personal hell”.

Mr Barilaro denies any wrongdoing as he gives evidence at the inquiry.

Nine Radio reporter Clinton Maynard told Mark Levy Mr Barilaro has provided a crucial timeline of his interest in the role.

He said no minister had ever raised with him that an appointment would be politically sensitive.
