Jim Wilson questions ‘debatable’ extra year of school plan

Article image for Jim Wilson questions ‘debatable’ extra year of school plan

Jim Wilson has questioned the plan for children in NSW to go to school for an extra year.

In what’s being described as the biggest schooling reform in a generation, every four-year-old will be offered to attend pre-kindergarten, five days per week, over the next ten years.

Jim has questioned how the plan will work as it’s set to cost $5.8 billion.

“We’ve got a teachers shortage now, so how are we going to make this work effectively because attracting new teachers will be an enormous challenge,” Jim said.

“The last thing we need is to take teachers away from other year groups that would impact students learning.”

Education Expert from the Centre for Independent Studies Glenn Fahey told Jim Wilson, there are a lot of “unanswered questions”.
