Jim Wilson in heated debate with union official over commuter ‘disaster’

Unions aren’t apologising for taking industrial action next week, despite conceding Sydney’s train commuters will be badly affected.

The state government and transport union are deadlocked, with the government offering a 2.5 per cent pay rise while workers demand 3.5.

Jim Wilson interrogated Rail, Tram and Bus Union Secretary Alex Claassens over the “extremely disappointing and extremely frustrating” decision to create a “disaster for commuters”.

“You’re not winning any favours or any friends!”

Mr Claasens acknowledged “there will be disruptions”, but maintained the action is both precedented and necessary.

“Unfortunately the delegates at the negotiating table have just had enough.

“You get pushed to a point, and people feel like they have no other option.”
