Liberal senator Jim Molan has contacted the Department of Home Affairs after claims of misconduct by Michael Daley were brought to his attention.

Mr Daley is in a tight race to become premier of NSW at Saturday’s election but worked as a customs officer for 13 years before entering politics.

Senator Molan has contacted Home Affairs about a past investigation into Mr Daley’s apparent unauthorised use of a motor vehicle.

Mr Molan tells Chris Smith a Senate Estimates committee will come up with an answer, but it won’t be until after the state election.

“I’ve been given a whole bunch of information from members of the public, and they’re all allegations in relation to Michael Daley’s character.

“It’s alleged that he has told untruths and I was very disappointed in that.

“These are all allegations, but I have a responsibility to act on them, and I think I’ve acted on them responsibly.”
