Australian boxing legend Johnny Famechon has died aged 77.

He became Lineal and WBC featherweight champion in 1969 after he defeated the Cuban José Legrá on points at the Albert Hall in London.

Famechon retired from boxing aged 25.

In 1991 he was hit by a car in Sydney, which caused a stroke and resulted in an acquired brain injury.

Retired boxer Jeff Fenech told Ben Fordham he received a Christmas card from Famechon every year.

“As a human, he was second to none.”
