Tasmanian Senator Jacqui Lambie has lashed out at The Department of Veteran Affairs, after a senate estimates hearing revealed the DVA doesn’t keep track of suicides.

Ms Lambie says many of the recommendations made by a 2017 suicide by veterans parliamentary inquiry remain unfulfilled.

“It’s absolutely disgusting that it’s taken this long to implement all those recommendations,” she tells Steve Price.

Among her concerns are the outsourcing of approvals to contractors, and the speed of the handover process between Defence and the DVA.

Steve says, “the biggest problem is that delay between when you’re discharged, and when you get your benefits. That’s when people are taking their lives!”

“This transition is the heart of it, and the heart’s not there mate,” Ms Lambie responded. Jackie Lambie slams ‘disgusting’ inaction on suicide prevention
