Jacqui Lambie holds out on tax cut decision

Crossbench senator Jacqui Lambie says she needs more information before pledging support for the government’s full tax package.

She has asked for the federal government to waive Tasmania’s $157 million social housing debt in return for her vote.

The opposition voted in favour of the full tax package which was passed through the House of Representatives on Tuesday night.

But they are expected to oppose it in the Senate unless it’s split.

Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Housing Michael Sukkar tells Ross Greenwood he stands by the tax cuts passing in full.

“I know the leader of the Senate, Mathias Cormann, is in discussions with a whole range of those crossbenchers, including Jacqui.

“I suppose I am hopeful that common sense will prevail.”
