A leading figure of the Jewish community has been denied entry to a multicultural event hosted by NSW Labor.

Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff was turned away at the door of the Sussex Street event by the state’s first Muslim MP Shaoquett Moselmane.

He was told he was not welcome at the dinner dedicated to multiculturalism.

Despite Mr Alhadeff being sent an invitation to the event by ALP General Secretary, Mr Moselmane still argued it was a function for Labor members only.

“His own invitation which he sent out said that this new organisation should be a conduit between the multicultural community and the party and the union movement.

“It is a concern that someone who holds a senior position that Shaoquett Moselmane holds… would knowingly exclude the CEO of the representative body of a community.”  Mr Alhadeff tells Ben Fordham.

Opposition Leader Luke Foley has since released a statement apologising for the incident saying Mr Alhadeff did have a written invitation to the meeting, however Mr Moselmane says there was a miscommunication.

While Labor deputy upper house leader Walt Secord condemned Mr Moselmane saying it was stupid, malicious and vindictive to refuse him entry into a multicultural event.
