‘It’s so subjective’: New retail rating system may not work for everyone

Deborah Knight

The NSW Government is looking at bringing in a new star rating system for all retailers, which will tell you how a food outlet is performing on a range of things, including food safety.

The new Minister for Fair Trading, Anoulack Chanthivong, says he wants to bring in for all retailers to give power to the consumer and basically give better access to information.

Australian Retailers Association’s Paul Zahra told Deborah Knight he “understands why the systems will work in food”, but he is not sure it will work for all of retail.

“In retail, that’s a little bit more complex. It is so subjective when it comes to service,” said Mr Zahra.
