It’s time to shake your groove thing as iconic hit musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert dazzles its way into Sydney. 

The famous Australian story about three drag queens bound for Alice Springs will run at the magnificent Capitol Theatre until July 21.

Alan Jones broadcast his show from the set, describing it as a must-see, saying “beg, borrow or steal, buy some tickets for your mum or your family”.

The starring trio, Tony Sheldon, David Harris and Euan Doidge, tells Alan working together is an “absolute joy every night”.

Legend of the stage Tony Sheldon who stars as Bernadette says “it’s a real team”.

A “mammoth” production, he explains it’s about the costumes and sets as much as it is the story.

“You can’t put the desert on stage in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, so what do you do? You have fantasy costumes, it’s almost like the whole thing is a series of dream sequences.

“It’s demystifying the unknown because drag queens have never been the heroes of a story before the film of Priscilla, they were always the other, they were the unknown quantity.”
