‘It’s a stuff up’: Spanish company behind botched light rail awarded new government contract

Transport Minister Andrew Constance admits there’s been a “stuff up” after the contractor for Sydney’s light rail was handed a new government contract.

Spanish company Acciona has won an $8-million contract to build an entry road for the new Macksville Hospital on the state’s mid-north coast.

This is despite lengthy delays over the light rail construction in the CBD.

Transport Minister Andrew Constance tells Ben Fordham it was a mistake and the company will not be given contracts in the future.

“It’s a stuff up by some bureaucrat who had delegated authority from the Ministry of Health to award this and not realised what the hell was going on.

“I’m not happy about it.

“We’ve got a major, major court case on with these people, we’ve got a go-slow on a project… this is just ridiculous.”
