‘It’s a removal of your freedom’, dad fined $200 for drinking a beer while fishing
How un-Australian’s this?
A Perth dad has copped a $200 fine for having a beer while fishing.
36-year-old electrician Doug Vickery was at his local fishing spot in Perth’s north when police strolled up and fined him for street drinking.
They were initially attending the area after reports of a speeding car when they saw Doug fishing with a beer in hand.
He tells Ben Fordham he’s going to fight the fine.
“Yeah mate, I’m going to fight it. No way I’m paying for that.
“In Australia where the authorities accept it’s acceptable for a man to be fined for having a beer when he’s fishing, it’s almost classed as a dictatorship.
“It’s a removal of your freedom.”
