Iran launches missiles on military base housing US forces
Iran has launched “dozens” of ballistic missiles on an Iraqi base which hosts US forces after President Donald Trump ordered the killing of an Iranian military general.
The Pentagon has confirmed missiles have been fired at two military bases in Al-Assad.
Iranian State TV described it as Tehran’s revenge operation over the killing of Revolutionary Guard General Qassem Soleimani.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has released a statement that “the Government is closely monitoring the unfolding events in Iraq”.

Mr Trump has previously taken to Twitter, threatening retaliation if Iran were to attack any US bases.
All is well! Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good! We have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world, by far! I will be making a statement tomorrow morning.

Defence Minister Linda Reynolds tells Luke Grant the Australian government is closely monitoring the situation.
“The safety and security of Australian personnel is our absolute top priority.
“All ADF and also our diplomatic personnel are safe, and in fact, we’re very pleased that there’s been no reports of deaths at all, either Coalition or Iraqi.”
