After years at the top of rugby league media, Michael Chammas is trading the press box for the General Manager role at the Papa New Guinea Chiefs.

Chammas recalls always wanting to be involved with the NRL, and for many years journalism was his vantage point.

However, a trip to Papa New Guinea in 2025 quickly sparked his interest in the international franchise and prompted questions from the NRL’s top bosses.

“I knew if I didn’t do it I’d regret it for the rest of my life,” Chammas told The Continuous Call Team.

The PNG team is set to join the NRL in 2028.
