Inner West Council wants government to pay for its demerger

The Inner West Council Mayor is asking for the government to fund the cost of a demerger after putting forward its business case.

Ahead of the local elections last December 62.5 per cent of voters were in favour of reversing the 2016 council merger.

But 70 per cent of council workers aren’t in favour of a de-amalgamation.

Mayor Darcy Byrne told Ben Fordham the government should consider the business case for a demerger.

“In the end, it’s a political decision.”
