A 45-year-old helicopter pilot has been rushed to hospital following a serious helicopter crash in Kosciuszko National Park this afternoon.

Just after 2:30 pm the helicopter crashed in remote bushland in Cabramurra and quickly caught fire.

It’s revealed the pilot, who was the sole occupant of the helicopter, managed to extinguish the flames on himself before emergency services arrived.

Lisa Huggins from NSW Ambulance says the pilot has suffered head and spinal injuries and has been transferred to Canberra Hospital.

“He’s very lucky to be alive,” Lisa tells Chris Kenny.

“He’s able to have gotten himself out of the helicopter and managed to put a fire out at the same time.

“It’s believed he did extinguish the flames on himself.”
