‘Incompetence to the point of negligence’: Barnaby Joyce fuming over foot and mouth inaction

The former Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce is the latest voice in a chorus of people furious over government inaction on foot and mouth disease.

This comes as the Agriculture Minister Murray Watt announces the Government will implement sanitising foot mats across airports in the coming days.

“If this gets into Australia we have a 100 per cent lockdown … that will send your food bills through the roof.” Mr Joyce told Jim Wilson.

“This is incompetence to the point of negligence … if you keep playing that game of Russian Roulette, you’ll get it… it will turn up.”

When asked about whether the Government should close the border to Indonesia, Mr Joyce believes the idea should be considered.

“If the probability of it coming in is there then yes,” he said.

“I don’t think you should rule it out.”
