The Prime Minister’s signature energy policy has overcome its latest hurdle after Coalition MP’s overwhelmingly endorsed the National Energy Guarantee.

ACCC chairman Rod Sims briefed the Nationals and the Coalition on their 56 recommendations for electricity affordability.

He tells Ross Greenwood he believes the recommendations “can restore Australia’s competitive advantage in electricity”.

“And more importantly, restore affordability for electricity.”

He says it’ll be a major problem if government gets the energy mix wrong.

“It’s important that they battle it out and let the best, cheapest, players win.

“If government decide the technology they’ll get it wrong and it’ll cost us more.”
