‘I’m overwhelmed’: Ray Hadley gets his Samoan discovery to perform live in the studio

Anyone who listens to The Ray Hadley Morning Show will have heard Sam Ah Chookoon by now, aka Mr Cowboy 62.

And if you haven’t, don’t worry, Ray Hadley predicts this Samoan musician is going to make a name for himself around the world.

His music has been on high rotation on Ray’s show and now the country singer and his guitarist Josh have made it all the way to Australia for a live performance.

Ray Hadley was in awe of the performance, predicting huge things in Mr Cowboy 62’s future.

“In a few years from now, I’m going to say that young bloke played on my program before anything else happened,” says Ray.

“That was brilliant and, you know what, I didn’t know what to expect. I’m overwhelmed by your talent.”

Sam was extremely nervous to be interviewed, preferring to let his music do the talking.

But he was happy to tell Ray Hadley how he went away from traditional Samoan music and got into the country scene.

Mr Cowboy 62 is putting on just the one public show while he’s in Australia, playing at the Penrith Hotel this Saturday night, October 19.

Tickets are $25 if you pre-purchase or $30 at the door – call the hotel to buy them.

Ray Hadley says he’ll try and go one better for their next visit to Australia, hoping the get them a gig at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
