Olympic Paralympic swimming champion Alexa Leary is best known for her achievements in the pool, but now is stripping back the layers and going back to the accident that changed her life in her new memoir. 

Suffering a traumatic brain injury following a high-speed cycling crash five years ago left her fighting for her life, leaving her in hospital for over 100 days, did not stop her from winning two gold medals and the 2024 Paris Paralympics

The Order of Australia recipient appeared on Wide World of Sport with Adam Hawse saying that despite not wanting to tell everything that happened during her recovery, the purpose of the book was to help and inspire others.

“It’s been a really big journey and I’ll be in recovery for the rest of my life, but that fact is I pushed through the limits and they said I would never walk or talk again…and I’m going to go and be a world champion” Leary said.

Leary’s new book “Sink or Swim” was released this week and focuses on her recovery and bringing more awareness for those who have suffered a traumatic brain injury like she has.
