“I’m completely opposed to it”: Victorian MP disputes Indigenous voice to parliament

Victorian Liberal Member for Kew Tim Smith has opposed the establishment of an Indigenous voice to parliament during a chat with Luke Grant on Drive.

This follows his decision to defy bi-partisan agreement on the establishment of an independent authority to oversee Victorian treaty negotiations.

Mr Smith’s crossing the floor led to wide-spread criticism, he joined Luke Grant to respond.

‘I’m absolutely not a racist. My whole argument is that no Australian citizen should be treated any differently based on race.

“Sticking an Aboriginal flag on top of the Harbour Bridge is not going to close the gap,” he said.
