‘I will not leave my country’: The Ukrainian travel agent turned defence volunteer

The conflict in Ukraine has shown it’s citizens standing firm, with an undying spirit many who have no conflict experience are staying to defend their home.

Alexandra Vinokur, travel agent turned Ukrainian defence force volunteer decided to stay behind in the capital Kyiv as her parents fled to the Western parts of the country.

Alexandra now spends her day providing assistance, food, medicine, and donate blood to help Ukrainian citizens.

Alexandra explains to John how dire the situation is as a convoy of vehicles edges closer to the city, and Russian forces encircle Kyiv from the west. The situation is taking a toll on essential supplies for citizens.

“You never know what it is going to be like in a day or two,” Alexandra explains.

She explains how volunteers have made 100 petrol bombs to help defend themselves against Russian soldiers.

“ I have nowhere to go and nothing to lose,

“I will not leave my country till the end… our mental spirit is strong.”
