‘I just felt so betrayed’: Leading WA doctor slams Mark McGowan over decision to scrap opening date
A leading doctor says he and others in the medical profession feel betrayed the WA Premier Mark McGowan’s decision to keep borders up.
Mr McGowan held an emergency press conference on Sunday night last week, citing fears from the Omicron variant as the reason for keeping borders up.
But now, Dr Luke Torre, an intensive care doctor base in WA, has created a petition that has been signed by more than 5000 WA doctors urging Mr McGowan to reverse his decision.
He also has fears that the Premier has lost trust and that compliance of new health rules will be minimised as a result.
“I just wish we can find some proportionality of response,” he said on 2GB Drive.
“i understand we need some level of restrictions, I understand we don’t want this going crazy.
“But we’ve seen in other states, particularly South Australia … we can manage this well, our health system doesn’t have to be overrun, and we don’t have to be denied access to our loved ones.”
