‘I couldn’t wait to tell the kids’: Cody Walker earns Origin selection

Cody Walker has earned a place in the NSW State of Origin team as the oldest debutant.

Walker has earned the number six jersey from Blues coach Brad Fittler ahead of next Wednesday’s Origin series opener.

The 29-year-old Rabbitohs player will become the oldest five-eighth to debut in Origin history.

He tells Chris Smith telling his family about his selection was the first thing on his mind.

“To be honest I couldn’t wait to get home and tell the kids.

“Just the excitement on their face… it was an amazing feeling.

“But none of that means anything if I don’t go out there and do my job on Wednesday night.”

Chris also caught up with Cameron Murray, the team’s youngest debutant at just 21-years-old.

He says he’s looking forward to playing with his fellow Rabbitoh Cody Walker.

“We play well with each other. It just makes it that little bit easier. Puts us 10 or so weeks ahead of every other combination in the team.”
