Hundreds of farmers storm Queensland Parliament

Queensland farmers are up in arms, with proposed legislation limiting their rights to their own property.

Suggested amendments to existing laws would give the Minister the power to decide whether landholders can harvest vegetation on their property.

Farmer Dan McDonald is fighting tooth and nail against a $112,000 fine issued for harvesting the mulga on his land to prevent his cattle from starving during the drought.

Dan is pushing to stop this legislation, protesting alongside hundreds of other farmers at Queensland Parliament this morning.

“It’s essentially like placing the rights to live in one’s own home in the hands of a Minister,” Dan tells Alan Jones.

Alan points out the new legislation would contradict the Legislative Standards Act which states Queensland laws mustn’t “adversely affect rights and liberties”.

Alan is calling on Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to “stop the theft”.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk I know you listen.

“You are stealing from Queenslanders.”
