Hundreds evacuated from iconic skyscraper in Surfers Paradise

A fire has ignited in Surfers Paradise’s Q1 Tower, causing multiple residents to be hospitalised.

Authorities have stated that the fire broke out from a commercial bin in the basement, but the real problem was the smoke that dispersed into the apartment floors, putting residents at risk.

2GB has heard conflicting reports from residents on the top floor as they have said, “they didn’t hear an alarm and they’ve woken up to the smell of burnt toast,” Channel Nine’s Tyra Stowers reported.
