A police operation in Sydney’s Lower North Shore has concluded after a man allegedly went on a rampage at a hotel.

Police swarmed on Longueville Road at Lane Cove after a brief interaction with the man around 4pm.

After a short interaction with the man regarding an ongoing investigation, he allegedly produced a screwdriver before fleeing the scene.

Polair and the Police Dog Unit were at the scene and traffic blocked off.

About 6.30pm the operation concluded, and police inquiries continue.

Nine News reporter Ruth Wynn-Williams tells Karl Stefanovic a huge operation was underway to reportedly track down the man.

“They do seem to be hunting what we understand is a young man who may have gone on a rampage of some sort here this afternoon.”

There were earlier reports an officer had been stabbed but NSW police have confirmed no officer was injured.

Local business owner Phil tells Karl there are 10 police cars at the scene but it is “pretty quiet”.

“The undercover cops were the first thing that I saw.

“They’ve got the sniffer dogs out now as well and they’re sort of looking on top of the rooftops.”
