How NSW Cup cancellation paid dividends for junior Rabbitohs star Blake Taaffe

South Sydney Rabbitohs fullback Blake Taaffe is making history this Sunday by becoming the most inexperienced player in an NRL Grand Final.

The 22-year-old told Mark Levy and Billy Slater it’s “pretty surreal” to be preparing for a Grand Final after only seven games in the league.

Commended on his “outstanding” form by Billy, Taaffe gave credit to his fellow Rabbitohs stars’ mentorship.

“The last year, as you know, our Canterbury Cup has been cancelled due to COVID, so I’ve spent a lot of time with Cody [Walker] and Latrell [Mitchell] just working on little things that I can improve.

“I’ve spent a lot of time with [Adam] Reynolds and Benji [Marshall] as well, just learning the little things that I may need to go on with my career.”

Taaffe also revealed the heartwarming advice he received from Mitchell, the man whose boots he’ll fill again this weekend.
