How adaptive sports provide opportunities for the elderly and physically challenged
Advocates for increasing participation in sports and recreation are spruiking the benefits of adaptive sports.
Adaptive sports are any activities that are altered to cater to a broader physical, cognitive and mobility diverse group.
The Adaptive Movement is a website that connects people with over 150 providers of adaptive sport and recreation.
Things like walking netball for the elderly, blind sports, deaf sports and wheelchair sports are all offered via the website.
Mick Garnett, the CEO of Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT, joined Ray Hadley to explain the benefits of adaptive sports.
“We know the physical health, the mental health and the social health of getting out there and getting more active,” he said.
He also put the call out to 2GB listeners to to help add to adaptive sports opportunities.
“Help us build this thing, so no one misses out,” he said.
