A house fire in Sydney’s west has revealed something the residents weren’t so keen on making public.

Police discovered the home was actually being used as a drug house after the blaze was extinguished.

Just before 4am on Thursday, emergency services were called to the home on Montrose Avenue at Merrylands.

Firefighters managed to put the fire out but the house was significantly damaged.

Officers investigating found a hydroponic cannabis setup inside the property.

Nobody was at the home when police arrived and detectives are now searching for the residents.
