Home for Christmas: Family reunions on the cards as Qantas boosts flight capacity

The aviation sector is celebrating the Prime Minister’s announcement international travel can resume as soon as next month.

Qantas Chief Technical Pilot Alex Passerini told Jim Wilson the mid-November resumption of flights will be welcome relief for his grounded colleagues, and Australians still stuck overseas.

[I’m] quite emotional to be honest, because we’re coming on two years since we started all of this, and … to have this announcement today is just brilliant.

“You’ll hear about [flights to] places like Hong Kong, Singapore, Vancouver … Fiji – there’s quite a long list [and] they all look pretty enticing.”

Many Australians abroad or with loved ones abroad will now be reunited for the holiday season.

“We’ve got more capacity to bring more [flights] online ahead of Christmas to get people where they want to be … that’s going to be the emotional part.”
