Here’s what’s happening with the Bankstown Southwest Metro

Joe Hildebrand

Sydney Metro received planning approval in 2018 to upgrade the T3 Bankstown Line between Sydenham and Bankstown to metro standards, and development now is underway.

Chief Operations Officer of Transport for NSW, Howard Collins says the new Sydney Metro train will be fully air-conditioned, have platform screen doors for safety, and a train will come every four minutes during peak hours.

“The metro is a computer-based train control system, so it’s going to take a while,” Mr Collins told Joe Hildebrand.

“Nobody likes a replacement bus service, so this is something that will be in the forefront of the government’s mind.”
