‘Hang your head in shame’: Ray rips into journalist for story on Payne Haas’ mother

Article image for ‘Hang your head in shame’: Ray rips into journalist for story on Payne Haas’ mother

Ray Hadley has ripped into an article featured in News Corp newspapers regarding Payne Haas and his mother’s ongoing legal situation, condemning the author, Brent Read for his lack of sensitivity towards the alleged victims and their families.

The mother of the Brisbane player, Uiatu “Joan” Taufua, is charged with three counts of manslaughter following a crash at Bonogin which claimed the lives of Chris Fawcett, Susan Zimmer and her daughter Steffanie on December 30 last year.

The piece focuses on the ability of Taufua to watch her son play in the State of Origin series opener from prison.

“Brent Read hang your head in shame. There’s got to be a better rugby league story than this one.

How about the people writing this crap stop and consider the impact on the deceased families, friends and relatives.

I ask the journalists to consider what they’d be writing if it was three members of their family that were killed by an alleged drunk driver trying to escape police. For God’s sake, have some common decency.”
