Guy Sebastian opens up about the tragic story behind his new single

Guy Sebastian has opened up about the death of his dear friend which inspired his new single Choir.

While working in LA last year, beloved Australian singer Guy Sebastian received a call that changed his life forever.

His friend and longtime bandmate Luke Liang had lost his life after a battle with mental health.

Guy’s new single Choir is a tribute to his late friend. Although he initially wrote the song as a ballad, Guy ended up ripping it up because he felt it just didn’t represent his friend.

He tells Alan Jones he could barely keep it together when he first started performing the now joyful, upbeat song.

“It’s gotten a little easier as I’ve been singing this song more and more.

“The first few times I sang this I was a mess. Even at the Logies, I remember singing it and I got to a certain verse… and just choked up.

“I think out of all these tragic circumstances what we’ve all taken away as a band, even just within our close-knit music community, we are checking up on each other so much more.

“It’s really had a positive impact.”
