Greens MP for housing Jenny Leong is petitioning for a two-year rental freeze, calling it “absolutely critical” for governments to act now.

Leong informed Chris O’Keefe of the Greens’ goal of a rental freeze to help stabilise the housing and rental markets, as inflation only increases. The proposed scheme has seen pushback from investment property owners.

“The cost of rent is out of control, we’re in the worst rental and housing crisis since World War Two. Families are choosing between whether or not they can afford the rent hike or buy food.”

Leong is the representative for Newtown in the NSW Parliament.
