Government promises bigger tax refund next week if new laws pass

Article image for Government promises bigger tax refund next week if new laws pass

The Finance Minister has promised Australians could receive an increased tax refund next week, if the legislation is passed.

The Coalition is confident its $158 billion income tax package will be passed by the end of the week with support from the Senate crossbench.

Debate on the legislation will begin today, but the Opposition has previously refused to support the cuts in full.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann tells John Stanley the government is hopeful the legislation will pass as soon as possible.

“We are intending to secure their passage by the end of this week which would ensure Australians can get their tax refund by the end of next week.”
