Australians are being encouraged to ‘adopt’ a farmer as part of a new campaign to help those who are struggling through drought.

The Daily Telegraph and The Courier-Mail have partnered with Rural Aid to launch the campaign, which also encourages schools to ‘adopt’ their own farmer.

Mark Ranger, a farmer from Forbes, says the drought situation is “getting very dire” as they face another winter without rain.

“The sun rises and the sun sets and… you know you’re doing your best, but unfortunately the best is not good enough.

“You just can’t get these livestock fed and full.”

But he tells Steve Price knowing there are people who are willing to help makes all the difference.

“People do care and people wanna help, and that is just the most magnificent feeling. It just keeps you going.”
