Amazon’s smart assistant Alexa has undergone an Aussification, with over 100 new slang phrases added to its repertoire.

Australian English vocabulary expert Dr Amanda Laugesen told Joe Hildebrand the device has learned Aussie phrases such as ‘chucking a sickie’ as well as modern phrases like ‘vibe check’.

“One of the challenges … for those kinds of devices [is] to make sure that they actually can recognise our very unique vocabulary and vernacular.”
