The Taree Lions Club is leading a community effort to bring relief to bushfire victims who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

Club President George Greaves spoke with Steve Price about the GoFundMe campaign, applauding the volunteer firefighters who risked their lives to protect properties.

“They’ve been out there, some of them all week, sleeping on the side of the road. So we just keep feeding them and putting them back out there.”

Mr Greaves agrees hazard reduction practices need to change.

“We need some really good forest management now, and I think this has woken up the world that it is required to get an actual First Person out there who knows how to manage the job and get it done.”
