Chantal Robertson, a fully vaccinated Sydney resident, has described the “tortuous situation” that’s seen her stranded in Sydney unable to get to Perth to see her dying sister.

Chantal’s sister, Natalie, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in March 2020.

She’s now in an “end of life” situation.

Chantal has told 2GB Drive no exemption has been provided, and she’s not able to get to WA without quarantining.

Chantal made three applications for a G2G pass to enter the state, was rejected twice, and only let in when New South Wales went from an “extreme risk” to “high risk” jurisdiction.

However, she still had to complete 14 days of hotel quarantine at her own expense, and then only had three days with her sister before she had to fly back to New South Wales.

Now Chantal is attempting to see Natalie again as her palliative care team have told her there isn’t much time left.

“It could be a couple of hours, it could be a couple of days,” Chantal said on 2GB Drive.

“But regardless, 14 days isn’t going to cut it, I can’t do quarantine.

“I won’t be there for her when she passes, and I very likely would not be able to make it for the funeral either.

“It’s very difficult.”

Infectious diseases expert Dr Clay Golledge said the story is becoming all too common.

“It’s terrible,” he said on 2GB Drive.

“It’s an all too common story I’m afraid, and we hear this a lot and I empathise with her, but she’s not alone there’s a lot of people, far too many, that have been through this.”
