‘Frightening’ foot and mouth disease could cause Australian rural devastation

Aussies are being warned of an ongoing concern in Bali which could have dire consequences on our own shores.

The livestock disease could devastate Australia’s livestock industry and rural communities and could even cost the economy up to $80 billion and there are now calls for Australia to place stricter protocols.

Foot and mouth disease spreads among livestock either airborne or through contaminated feed and clothing.

Nationals leader David Littleproud told Mark Levy the government needs to act quickly and new measures need to be put in place.

“There needs to be new measures by our biosecurity teams at airports to make sure they are screening every individual that comes back,” he said.

“When you come back from that airport, you need to have your feet dipped.

“This is really serious stuff… I can’t stress it enough.”
