Former policeman sheds light on drug importation in Australia

A former NSW policeman has shed light on drug importation after the death of a man in the Hunter River today.

Whilst attempting to retrieve a haul of cocaine from the Hunter River in Newcastle the man died.

It’s claimed he was trying to bring more than 50 kilograms of cocaine from an Argentinian container ship to shore before running into trouble.

Retired police officer Peter Moroney told Jim Wilson the case today is an approach similarly taken by cartel members overseas.

“This sort of an approach was certainly undertaken by Australian and combined cartels,” he said.

“They would then head over to Brazil and attach the drugs to the relevant ship and then come back via Thailand.
