Former parliamentary sectary says ‘banks have scoffed in the face’ of law
Former parliamentary sectary to the Treasurer, Bernie Ripoll, helmed the push in fighting back against banking misconduct.
In light of revelations made at the Banking Royal Commision, he tells Ross Greenwood he’s “shocked”.
“I’m shocked at the level of deception. I’m shocked at the level of misconduct.”
He tells Ross his committee previously looked at a number of these issues and were guaranteed it wouldn’t happen again.
“We were given the guarantees at that time that anything that had happened was historical, that culture would change and that they’d learnt their lesson.
“Well, we were wrong.
“Banks have basically scoffed in the face of the laws that were put in place… and basically taken it upon themselves to break the law.”
